THE 9th INTERNATIONAL CRETAN
STUDIES CONFERENCE:
Conferences on Cretan Studies are an international institution set
up 36 years ago (1961) by the late eminent personalities Mr. A. Kalokairinos
and N. Platon. They take place every five years on different parts of the
island with the participation of hundreds of experts on Cretan history,
archaeology, and letters from all corners of the world.
The 9th International Cretan Studies Conference took part in Heraklion
while the conference program featured more than 292 presentations from experts. The aim of the conference was the exchange of information from
the fields of archaeology, history, and literature on the «Private Life
on Crete»
It is widely acknowledged that this conference was one of the most
significant cultural events on the island during 1996. The impressive congregation
of so many national and international experts on Crete, and the wealth
of papers presented, are an indisputable proof of the scientific interest
in Crete.
