Andreas Glyniadakis

FROM “KYDON” OF CHANIA TO THE MYTHICAL WORLD OF THE NBA

For every basketball player, for every fan of the sport as well, the National Basketball Association (NBA) championship is inhabited by mythical players: Michel Jordan, Magic Jonhson, Saquille O Neal, Karim Abdul Jahbar, Larry Bird, Scotty Pipen, Curt Champerlain, are names that cause deep respect in our side of the Atlantic. The Europeans who receive an invitation for this very exclusive club are strictly selected by the highly professional American clubs. One of the very few Greeks basket players who were invited to join the NBA championship, Andreas Glyniadakis plays with the Seattle Supersonics and represents Greece and Crete.
Andreas was born in 1981, his height is 2.15 meters and he started his career with the team of “Kydon” in Chania, at the age of 10. His talent soon impressed the recruiters of Panathinaikos, the most important Greek team. His career took off, he was called to Greece’s national team of under 21 and besides Panathinaikos he played as a professional with the teams of AEK and Panellinios. In 2004 he crosses the Atlantic to join the Detroit Pistons first, then the Atlanta Hawks, before joining the Seattle Supersonics.
