    Giorgos Manolioudis is from the province of Mylopotamos, prefecture of Rethimnon. He is quite honest and bold to admit that genuine Cretan music originated from the prefecture of Chania, while the “rizitika” (songs of the mountains) were born in the area of Sfakia. However, the musical tradition of the prefecture of Rethimnon is uncontestable.

For example, N. Xilouris’ unique performances made “rizitika” known all over Greece. In addition, the names Skordalos and Mountakis are included among the legendary figures of Cretan folk music.

With his new CD to be released soon, Giorgos Manolioudis is shifting away from folk songs to more artistic vocal performances. In spite of that his thematology is about Crete. Rethymnon, being a source of intellectual inspiration and growth, holds a dear position in the heart of Giorgos. However, in his heart Crete is one and indivisible....
