Yorgos Psichountakis
THE MESSENGER
OF HOMER
Now, here is a spirited man that emulates Homer
and Cornaros. He was a talented folk artist and natural poet, a self-educated
scholar of the ancient Greek language and expert on the Iliad and Homer.
"Yorgos Psychountakis has been known as
'The
Cretan Runner'. A brave man who helped communicate messages between Greek and
allied forces on Crete during the Second World War. He is not only skilled in
spinning rhymes, he is also very articulate with the Cretan dialect. Two years
following the publication of his "Iliad" and eighteen years from the
publication of his "Odyssey", his descriptive powers and particular
mode of expression shall remain with us for ever . . ." |
