THE ARMY OF DESPAIR
Crete is an intermediary station in the route to uncertainty
of clandestine immigrants.

Contemporary
slave traders promise to carry desperate people to the “land of promise”
that are European countries in their eyes, aboard boats that can hardly
float. Often they are obliged to leave their human cargo in Crete,
leaving it to the mercy of God and the locals. Most of them are obliged
to take the “ticket of return” to their countries very quickly, as very
few - if any - are given the status of refugee. We discussed with
governmental and humanitarian organisations, but also with the
authorities on the processes that are followed when they confront with
these convoys, attempting to trace the hard route of these people in
despair to a better but very improbable future...
